Investigation of chemical fertilizers effects on groundwater quality of Shemiran villages

Abstract:
Increasing the application of chemical fertilizers 100 times in Iran during 40 years, soil and water resources have been becoming contaminated gradually. Because of providing a significant portion of drinking water demand in Shemiran villages from groundwater resources and existing many agricultural lands and gardens as well as using chemical fertilizers there, monitoring of groundwater quality in this region is vital. Therefore, this research was performed in 1389 in order to investigate the effects of chemical fertilizers on Shemiran villages’ groundwater.
This research was an analytical and descriptive research so for doing it, the water of 5 wells in 5 villages were sampled seasonally and their nitrate, potassium and phosphate concentration were measured.
The results showed that nitrate, phosphate and potassium concentration were in the range of 5-25, 0-0.24 and 2-20 mg/L respectively.
Meeting drinking water standard of Iran and no relation between nitrate, potassium, phosphate concentrations and the quantity of used fertilizers showed that the chemical fertilizer use in the studied region was efficient and groundwater of the studied region was clean. But due to existing phosphate in Henzak well, constant monitoring of its water is recommended.
