Prevalence of chronic complications and related risk factors of diabetes in patients referred to the diabetes center of Hamedan Province

Diabetes mellitus is fifth leading cause of death in most countries of the world. Diabetes causes of disability, disability, high cost of treatment and increased mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of chronic complications of diabetes and its related risk factors in diabetic patients referred to diabetic's center in Hamadan.
The study population of this cross-sectional study was consisted of type I and type II diabetic patients referred to diabetic's center in Hamadan and were included in study by census. Extracted information of patients was analyzed using Stata software version 11, descriptive statistics and chi-square test and independent t test with significance level of 5% were used.
In this study, 347 patients with type I diabetic and 119 patients with type II diabetes were studied. In patients with type II diabetes, neuropathy and retinopathy complications with 57/34% and 47/55%, respectively and in patients with type I diabetes, prevalence of neuropathy and retinopathy complications with 37/65% and 13/44%, respectively had highest prevalence of diabetes complications
With regard to the high prevalence of diabetes complications in the study population. It is necessary to done interventions at lifestyle, regular control of blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose to reduce diabetes complications. As well as whit timely and early detection of diabetes, it can be controlled and treated
