Evaluation of the VARK Model Learning Styles Selection in Medical Students

VARK learning styles are included visual, listening, reading and writing and performance styles or movement (learning by touching, hearing, smelling, tasting and seeing) styles. The aim of this study was to determine student's learning styles preference and their relationships in Medical Sciences students.
This was a Cross-sectional study in which 80 students of Medical Sciences were evaluated. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire of learning styles of hearing/ visual / read-write / performance (VARK) and by SPSS software via one-way Anova method were analyzed.
a total of 47.5% of students prefers one style mode, and the rest were chosen two, three or four learning styles modes. Main learning styles were auditory learning method (62.5%), read-write method (61.2%), a movement-motor style (48.4%) and visual style (33.8%). There were statistically significant correlation between reading-writing style and diploma score (4 / 1-1 / 095% CI, 02/0> P) and between education level of parents with using reading-writing style in students (P Based on the student's learning styles of listening, reading, writing, visual and motor- movement, the choice of appropriate teaching methods according to their preference learning styles, can improve their academic progression.
