Climate Design Strategies Using Vernacular Architecture
Author(s):
Abstract:
The main scope of current study is investigating patterns of vernacular underground architecture to achieve climate design startegies. Therefore, 20 case studies have been analyzed through analytic method. It should be noted that all samples are classified in different climate and function groups. Finally, lighting, insulation and ventilation strategies are presented through analyzing build methods of underground architecture. The results show that vernacular underground architecture are sustain and forme naturally. These building cause a delay on heat transfer and proper thermal function due to soil thermal mass. Threrefore, underground spaces has the ability to save energy, reduce air and noise pollutions, decrease visual contamination and creat climate compatible spaces. As results, designer should use proper and compatible materials with nature. In addition, environmental coordination, thermal comfort and natural ventilation and insulation are the main features of underground architecture that can be used in contemporary architecture.
