Comparison of dry land Bilehsevar lentil cultivar under different planting methods in Varzeghan region

Traditional cropping without using from machinary facilities is one of the major factors reducing lentil yield under dryland conditions. In order to study the effect of Bilehsevar lentil cultivar different sowing methods at Varzeghan region in east Azarbaijan province an experiment was conducted based on randomized complete blocks design with four replications during spring and summer 2015. Experimental treatments were three planting methods (planting of seeds with cereal drill, broad costing seeds by hand and covering them by stubble cultivator and broad costing seeds by hand and covering them with mould board plow). Results showed that there were differences among the experimental treatments in cases of plant height, the height of first pod from soil level, biological yield, seed yield and harvest index. The highest plant height (20.75cm), the first pod height from soil level (11.6 cm), biological yield (2.53 t/ha), seed yield (0.975 t/ha) and harvest index (38.6%) belonged to planting seeds with drill. In conclusion and based on the resultsof this study, using drill planting for lentil in Varzeghan region due to increasing of the yield and recommended.
