Abstract:
Paddy yields in Alamout region have been declined due to Chilo Suppressalis Walker pest. Slybyt scheme has been launched by government to overcome this problem. Since the success of the project mainly depends on farmers, participation, this study aims modeling farmer participation to the rice Slybyt scheme in the region and its effects on the cropping pattern and farmers gross profit. To this end, Positive Mathematical Programming (PMP) and the Maximum Entropy (ML) approach were used. Data collected from a sample of 136 farmers in 2012- 2013 by questionnaires using the Stratified Random Sampling method. The results showed that in both Eastern and Western part of the region, farmer's participation in the Slybyt scheme increases the rice yield relative to the base year while the rate of increase was different in relation to farm size. The result showed that the acreage of irrigated wheat, irrigated barley and beans decreased while the acreage of rice ,grass pea ,vetch and garlic increased. Also increase in farmers, gross margin from 4.78 to 13.09 percent relative to the base year was other consequence of farmer's participation in the Slybyt rice project.
