Critical Discourse Analysis Of Cosmetic Surgery In Iran Ruth Wodak Historical Discourse Analysis Approach Applied In The Documentary

In the current era of consumer culture strongly centered body and notion of body is essential component of personal identity in society and in the modern era. As a result, the body is seen as a sign and text can be medium to recognition of body culture in which the cultural changes and social, cultural, political and historical contexts evaluated. The results of this analysis indicate that in the documentary, institutions such as education, religion, medicine and art have speaker position about body and cosmetic procedures. The results also suggest that the film is scope of discourse struggle legitimacy or illegitimacy between the school and the medical discourse on the one hand - as confirming the action and discursive practice and discourse of religion and art - as a critic of this social practice -. The participants also engage in dialectic of trust - doubt, anxiety - comfort and individuality and image in the mirror of others. The discourse analysis of this documentary indicates that none of mentioned Discourses have not the superior position about cosmetic surgery and for this reason none of Discourses cannot be hegemonic in discourse space of this documentary
