Identification of Communication Styles within three urban, ru-ban and rural societies: Field study of Khorasan-Razavi Iran

The Objective of this research is to identify the differences of the three communication styles of: emotional intelligence (that is assertiveness), aggressiveness and passiveness within three urban, ru-ban and rural societies of Khorasan-Razavi Province of Iran. In the survey, 312 individuals were selected by random sampling in three zones of Torbat Hedariyeh Township. A combined questionnaire (Baron, Spearman, Shrink, Doss and Perry) was designed and used to gather data (validity α=0.75 and reliability KMO=0.84). The data were analysed by descriptive statistics and F Test and Spearman correlation coefficient. The average EQ, aggression and passivity of the three zones were significantly different. But the average of the passive style of communication was not meaningful. Moreover, there was correlation between educational level and the living zone of the sample society. The prediction of aggressive style for the three zones is rejected. However, EQ of the rural group was determined 47.5, the ru-ban 47.5 and the urban 44.62. In other words, the urban group’s EQ was 4 unit less than the rural group’s. Regarding the positive relationship between educational level and EQ, and negative relationship between educational level and aggressiveness and passiveness, upgrading of education in the society will be a promising issue.
