Factors affecting farmer's knowledge of potato waste management in the county of Razan - Hamedan

Annually, some 25 percent of potato produced in the country is wasted. Evaluation of potato growers’ knowledge of waste management is a key factor in reducing waste. This study aimed to evaluate knowledge of potato growers in this regard. The studied population was consisted of 546 farmers of Razan county from which a sample of 250 farmers were selected using Multi-stage sampling method. The research instrument was a questionnaire which was validated by a panel faculty members of faculties of agriculture from Tehran and Mohaghegh Ardabili universities. Chronbach alpha calculated for attitude scale (0.86) and knowledge (0.79). It showed high reliability of the instrument. Result of factor analysis showed that 5 obtained factors, viz. storage, transportation, harvesting, and planting explained 65.93% of total variance of knowledge of waste management of respondent.
