Simulation of carbon dioxide adsorption in a fluidized bed reactor

Abstract:
Hydrodynamic and mass transfer of CO2 reactive adsorption on calcium oxide in a fluidized bed reactor was simulated in this research. For accomplishing this task, Gidaspaw’s phases exchange coefficient was used. Moreover, Abanades et al. kinetic equation was selected to investigate the mass transfer coupled with chemical reaction between carbon dioxide and calcium oxide. Simulation results were validated using experimental data of solid phase volume fraction and axial velocity in the fluidized bed. The results showed that, the deviation of carbon dioxide mass fraction in outlet stream and adsorption performance were 10 and 65 percent, respectively. The effect of inlet gas velocity and temperature on CO2 adsorption also showed that adsorption is decreased with inlet gas velocity. It was also known that increasing of bed inlet gas temperature had negative effect on CO2 adsorption
