The effect of education prevention of cancer on student's knowledge attitude and practice in hashtbandi city

At the moment in the world more than 25 million people are living with cancer each year more than 11 million new cases of this disease diagnosed, and 7 million deaths from cancer will occur. Cancer Prevention is the most cost effective ways of coping with this disease. Effective and comprehensive health education is the most important way to prevent cancer. This study aimed to investigate the effect of education on knowledge, attitude and practices of students in city of Hashtbani, related to preventive behavior of cancer in 2015.
This study is a controlled experimental study. The sample included 360 students (191 boys and 169 girls) of Hashtbandi city, who were selected by multistage sampling method and were divided into two intervention and control group. Data collected by a researcher-made questionnaire which its validity and reliability were confirmed. Before the intervention, pre-test questionnaires were distributed and collected, then the necessary teaching was presented to intervention group and after one month, post-test questionnaires were distributed and collected. Data were analyzed by using SPSS software and non-parametric tests of Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney and Spearman.
The participants were similar in terms of background variables including age, gender and Parent occupation. Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in the mean score of knowledge, attitude and behavior between the two groups (P> 0/05), But after the intervention, the mean score of each variable in the intervention group increased significantly (P indicated the positive effect of training program on promote awareness, attitudes and preventive behavior of cancer, so according to the priority of prevention over treatment and low cost preventive activities especially about the of cancers, the need to develop and implement such training programs is necessary.
