Identification of QTLs Controlling Phenological Traits in Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

The aims of this research were to develop a molecular linkage map and also to locate the Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) controlling phenological traits in common bean. A population composed of 100 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from the cross of bean cultivar Goli and line AND1007 was used to construct a genetic linkage map including 240 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. Seventeen linkage groups belonged to the eleven common bean chromosomes were identified covering ~520 cM of genome and an average distance of 2.16 cM between two adjacent markers. In order to locate QTLs controlling phenological traits, RIL population were evaluated for traits of days to flowering, days to maturity and seed filling period in the research field of Razi University during 2014. Composite interval mapping analysis identified a total of six QTLs for the three traits of which two for days to flowering on Pv01, three for days to maturity on Pv01 and Pv07 and one for seed filling period on Pv02. Transgressive segregation was observed for all the measured traits showing the combination of parental alleles in some RILs. The results of this research showed the importance of Pv01 in controlling of important phenological traits in common bean.
