The Role and Position of People in the Islamic Democracy Model from the Point of View of the Supreme Leader

“Islamic Democracy ” is a model of the indige- nous governance of Iran, which the Supreme Leader has used it to lead the “discourse” of the political system formed in Iran after the victory of the Is- lamic Revolution. It recognizes the pattern of governance in opposition to “one-sidedness” and “marginalization”, “participation and sovereignty of the people” with the “authority of religion”. This indigenous pattern has been the answer to the “necessity of system-building” on the basis of religion and the “question of democracy-building” in a Muslim country. The purpose of this research is to answer the following question: what is “people’s position” in the pattern of religious democracy from the point of view of the Supreme Leader?
This research has been carried out using a descriptive-analyt- ical method and within the framework of the “institutionalism” approach, according to which it is possible to explain the pattern of a political system by reference to its institutions and structures. The conceptual and theoret- ical research of this model was first presented from the point of view of the Supreme Leader in the form of “divine origin and legitimacy” and “the authenticity of the sovereignty and public participation”, and then, with an institutionalist approach, the position of the people in this pattern from his
point of view was analyzed.
