The Relationship between Relational Beliefs, Relational Attributes, and Marital Happiness

Aim: Marital happiness is the general judgment and assessment basis of marriage which reflects the joy or satisfaction which he or she experiences in the marital relationship. Given the importance of marital happiness in the family durability and stability, identifying the underlie factors of marital happiness sounds necessary. This study has aimed to investigate the relationship between relational beliefs and attributions to marital happiness.
This research is correlation and the population was the whole married people in Tehran with less than 5 years from their marriage. The sample through using available sampling was 315 married men and women under 5 years of their marriage. The tools used for data collecting was Azrin Marital Happiness Scale (MHS), Relational Beliefs Inventory (RBI), and Relational Attribution Questionnaire (RAM).
Results from step-wise regression analysis, showed negative relationship between relational beliefs and relational attributions with the marital happiness; and also declared that among the relational beliefs subscales "Destructive opposition " has the greater share predicating marital happiness, and among the relational attribution subscales, the "Standing"(internal/external attributions) is the stronger predictor to marital happiness.
Based on the findings how more logical be the couple's relationship Beliefs and More optimistic attributions, they will experience more marital happiness Despite the limitation on generalizing the results to the entire population, it's suggested to the counselors and family therapists (premarital, couple and marriage enriching counseling) to focus on the relational beliefs and attribution.
