Epidemiological study on Brucellosis in Sistan & Baluchestan province during April 2009-March 2015, Iran

Brucellosis is very important in most parts of the world, especially in developing countries in terms of public health and its impacts on socio-economic status. The present study was conducted to determine the epidemiology of brucellosis in Sistan and Baluchistan province in the years 2009-2015.
This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on all cases of brucellosis (680 cases) in Sistan and Baluchistan Province identified by the public and private sectors during the years 2009 to 2015. Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 20 with the significance level of 0.05.
The average incidence rate in the present study was 27.5 per hundred thousand people, with the most in Khash (38.03) and the lowest in Saravan (0.36). Most Of the patients (26.9%) placed in the age group of 50 and over, 55.9% were female and 88.5% were rural. The most (25.3%) and the lowest (1.9%) cases were reported respectively in June and December. There was no significant relationship between gender and location. 91.4% of patients had a history of contact with animals, of which 74% of the cases had contact with live animals. 82.8% of patients consumed unpasteurized dairy products, which were mostly milk. A large number of patients were housewives (45.6%) and students (13.4%).
according to the results of this study its needed to teach the ways of transmission and prevention of disease in the community especially among the rural housewives, considering the important role of milk, with the priority of Khash and Iranshahr.
