Effect of Emotional Expressiveness Training on the Sense of Entrapment of Mothers with Hyperactive Children

Abstract:
Background And Objective
Having hyperactive children has profound effects on one’s relationships with other family members and affects the general atmosphere of the family. Reactions such as aggression, hostility, physical and emotional punishment by parents of hyperactive children are common. Emotional Expressiveness Training has recently been suggested. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the effect of emotional expressiveness training on the sense of entrapment of mothers with hyperactive children.
Methods
This is a pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental study. The population of the study was all mothers of children with Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder in Isfahan-Iran. Multistage random cluster sampling was used to recruit 30 participants. The participants were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The research instrument was Entrapment Scale developed by Gilbert and Allan (1998). The mothers in experimental group participated in Emotional Assertiveness Training in nine one-hour sessions for two months. The mothers in the control group did not receive any training. Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was used to analyze the data.

Emotional Expressiveness Training has a positive impact on reducing sense of entrapment of mothers with hyperactive children.
