Abstract:
Background
Heat strain scoring index (HSSI) is the index for evaluating heat strain. This study carried out to determine the relationship between HSSI with heart rate on the people with overweight and obesity in warm and hot weather under experimental conditions.
Methods
This experimental study was carried out on 35 people with normal weight (BMI25) in a climatic chamber. Each participant was asked to rest. Then each participant underwent a 60 minute light activity (2.8 kph on treadmill) while exposed to hot climatic conditions (370C). In other phase, the participants were asked to rest for 30 minutes and then do a 60minute moderate activity (4.8 kph on tread mill) while exposed to warm climatic conditions (320C). The heart rate was measured every 4 minute. The HSSI questionnaire was answered through participants during the rest, the first activity and the second activity.
Findings: The pearson correlation coefficients showed that there are relationship between the HSSI of first activity with the heart rate of second activity (r = 0.50, p
Conclusion
Based on the results of this study, the mean heart beat and the mean HSSI were higher in overweight and obese participants than those with normal weight. Also there was significantly correlation between heart rate and HSSI.
