Investigating Mental Workload and Job Satisfaction in the Emergency Medical Technicians Centers in Isfahan in 2015

Emergency medicine personnel should have quick action and critical decision during patient transport from the accident site to health centers. They also need to control patient’s state of consciousness and vital signs. This study was conducted to evaluate the mental workload and relation and its impact on job satisfaction in emergency medical technicians centers.
The present study is cross-sectional which was carried out on 82 individuals from emergency medical personnel in Isfahan. NASA-TLX software was used for data collection to evaluate the mental workload and JDI job satisfaction questionnaire was used to measure job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using paired t-test, pearson correlation coefficient and spss-20.
Findings: The minimum average score of job satisfaction is related to payment (1.9). The average score of mental workload was (57.76) in simple operation and (82.87) in complex operations. The direct relation was between the score of overall job satisfaction and the score of performance evaluation. Total score of mental workload showed a direct relation with job satisfaction score in work dimension but no significant relation in other areas (P > 0.05). Paired t-test also showed the mean score of mental workload and its dimensions in complex operations were significantly more than simple operation (P Mental work load in complex operations can be used as a factor to determine the amount of hard work and working hours for medical emergency technicians. Regard to the high level of dissatisfaction in wages and promotion, perhaps with improving working conditions by reviewing the pay and benefits, could be increased job satisfaction in this important and sensitive group.
