The Structural Model of the Effect of Self-esteem, Motivation, and Cognitive Emotion Regulation on Academic Procrastination among Farhangian University Students

Abstract:
The present study aimed develops a plan for academic procrastination among Farhangian University students based on their self-esteem, motivation, and cognitive emotion regulation. Therefore, 324 Tabriz Farhangian University students were selected using relative hierarchical sampling method. The instruments used in the present study included academic procrastination scale, cognitive emotion regulation scale, self-esteem scale, and academic motivation scale. The results of the study indicated that there was a significant negative correlation between the subscales of self-esteem and academic procrastination. Moreover, some of the indexes of motivation had significant correlation with procrastination. The examination of different indices indicated the fitness of the model for the data. According to this model, the direct path of motivation to procrastination was significant and positive. Findings of the study indicated the direct effect of motivational variables on explaining procrastination among the students.
