Effectiveness of PARS Cognitive Rehabilitation Program on the Improvement of Executive Function in Children with ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental type disorder. Executive functions disorder is a universal characteristic of ADHD including negative outcomes on the children with this disorder. The purpose of the current study was to determine the effects of PARS cognitive rehabilitation program on the improvement of inhibitory control and risky decision-making in children with ADHD.
Material and
A randomized clinical study (pretest, post-test with control group) was carried out on 30 children with ADHD, aged 7-13-year-old. The participants were divided randomly into two control and intervention groups (15 each). During the treatment, three children from the experimental group left the study. Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BARAT) was used to assess risky decision-making, and the Go/ Nogo and Stroop Tests were used to assess the inhibitory control. The results of the study demonstrated that inhibitory control in children with ADHD improved after using PARS cognitive rehabilitation, while there was no significant difference in risky decision-making between the two groups. Also, the results showed that this program has an effect on other parts of executive functions.
