Emegentistism and Mulla Sadra on the nature of Mind

Emergentism as a solution to the problems of physicalistic explanation of natural events is against the physicalistic reductionalism. It is important especially in the philosophy of mind, because it claims to resolve the problem of mind-body relationship. Interestingly, emergentism and Islamic philosophy (in particular Mulla-Sadra’s Philosophy) have two common aspects. First, they both criticize the physicalistic explanation of mental states. Second, they have monistic approaches to the world. In this article, emergentistic and Mulla-Sadra’s views of the nature of mind and its relation to body are evaluated.
