Gadamer and Motahari on Hermeneutics and Understanding of Texts

Hermeneutic is the field of study deals with the better ways to understanding a work. Sometimes it means commentary that is not accurate. The initial approaches to Hermeneutics was concerned with the interpretation of texts especially religious texts in the period of religious authority. Then there's the period of philosophical Hermeneutics that culminates in Gadamer's philosophy. Then comes the period of modern Hermeneutics that is a more critical approach to the philosophical Hermeneutics. There is not Western Hermeneutics among Muslims. But occasionally some of their discussions are similar to Hermeneutics is. To understand a text, especially the Quran, Motahari as a neo_sadraee philosopher says, we must look beyond the appearance of the text in order to understand, by a specific meyhodology, the author's purpose of his work. This article will compare Gadamer and Motahari on the ways of understanding a text.
