Allama Tabatabay on the Divine Transcendence and Immanence

There are different views on the semantics of Divine attributes and speaking of God that explain the significance of religious language on the one hand and the theological and philosophical efforts to realize and describe God on the other. “God’s transcendence and immanence” is a theory that claims God’s transcendence does not preclude His immanence in creation. This theory has been confirmed by scriptures and accepted by some Muslim sages as Allama Tabatabayi. He, relying on the principles of Sadra’s philosophy, says religious concepts of God’s attributes have both negative and affirmative meanings.This article will consider Allama Tabatabayi’s view as an instance of Islamic philosophy’s capacity in the problem of religious language.
