Effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing on Changing Lifestyle and Reducing Drug Craving in Addicts

Aims: Dependence on substance is a chronic and recurrent disorder that imposes high costs on individuals, families and the community. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of motivational interviewing in changing lifestyle and reducing drug craving in addicts.
This quasi-experimental research was carried out with pretest-posttest design and control group in the first 3 months of 2016. 30 addicts who referred to medieval residential treatment centers of Ardabil city, Iran, were selected by available sampling method and randomly divided into 2 groups of experimental and control. The Lifestyle and the reducing drug craving questionnaires were used to collect data. The differences of indices between the 2 groups were analyzed by SPSS ?? software using multivariable analysis of variance.
Findings: Increase in average lifestyle index scores and decrease in drug craving in the experimental group were significant.
