Biotic Macroinvertebrate Indices to Ecological Health Assessment of Aquatic Ecosystems

Macroinvertebrates are the most important biota for assessing and predicting of ecological health variation in the world. In Iran, the feasibility of Macroinvertebrates indices is unknown for water resources management. So, the explanation of calculation methods of the biotic popular indices is the aim of this study. The specific climate condition, high diversity of macroinvertebrates and water lack in our country are causes that showed we must be serious for the bio monitoring and bio assessing of our aquatic ecosystems. The Ecological Quality Ratio (EQR) is the newest multimetric index of macroinvertebrates that should have modified for Iranian context. It seems with regarding of the similarity among Iranian and European aquatic ecosystems especially for the northern one, the European Macroinvertebrates indices would be appropriated.
