Abstract:
It is with the power of the intellect that one can be in a position to do an action. The human action is a result of his knowledge and want (that is, will). Rational actions obey real laws that can, and are apt to, determine the will. The intellect discovers such laws and finds itself obliged to obey them. In the nature, the intellect faces its instincts. However, a remarkable portion of the intellect’s capacities is devoted to stop the indiscipline and disobedience of instincts in the face of the laws of action. Besides such a conduct, there is another conduct in which all capacities of the cognitive and conative intellect are devoted to the best possible condition, as a result of which instinctive powers tend to goodness and rightness. In this paper, this conduct is referred to as the “conduct of Men of Truth” (sulūk al-Ṣiddiqīn), because the primary object of the cognitive affirmation of the truth (taṣdīq) is that which is prior to everything else - that by whose want and command the will is determined. The traveler of this path begins by a full attention to God, finding everything on the way to be in the domain of attention to God, until he arrives his destination, that is, God.
