The Effect of Occupational Therapy on Self-steem of Housewives with Mood Disorders after Discharge from the Hospital

Mood disorders are one of the most traumatic psychiatric illness, low self-esteem to suffer even after discharge from the hospital. This study aimed to determine the effect of occupational therapy on self-esteem activities in housewives with mood disorders after discharge from the hospital.
In this randomized clinical trial, 70 housewives with mood disorders discharged from a Ibn-Sina psychiatric hospital in Mashhad in 94-95 years were studied in the two groups (n = 35) and control (n = 35). Occupational therapy intervention group (according to the model of psychosocial occupational therapy Cara), during 20 sessions twice a week for 120 minutes and the control group received no intervention. Self Esteem Questionnaire tool was completed immediately before the intervention and 2/5 months after discharge from the hospital. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 11.5 and Fisher's exact test, and paired t-test.
In the pre-intervention between groups in mean scores of self-esteem (4/11 ± 2/97) and control (4/10 ± 9/95) there was no significant difference (17/0 = p). But the change in the mean scores of self-esteem before and after the intervention, the intervention group (2/11 ± 8/13) and control (6/9 ± 3/3) were significantly different (001/0> p).
Implementation of occupational activities can be combined to enhance self-esteem in patients with mood disorders.
