The relationship between cancer coping with symptoms management self-efficacy, perceived social support, uncertainty and life orientation in breast cancer survivors in academic centers of Urmia in 2016

Introduction & Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations among cancer coping, symptom-management self-efficacy, uncertainty, optimism and perceived social support in Iranian breast cancer survivors.
This study was a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study .The data of 150 breast cancer survivors in Urmia were collected by cancer coping questionnaire, symptom-management self-efficacy scale for breast cancer related to chemotherapy, short form of the Mishel uncertainty in illness scale, life orientation test –revised and the multidimensional scale of perceived social support questionnaires during 2016. Data were analyzed with using SPSS software version 20 by applying descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficients.
The symptom-management self-efficacy, optimism and perceived social support all correlated significantly with cancer coping. Significant negative correlation was identified between uncertainty and cancer coping (Significant at the 0.01 level (.). Results of stepwise multiple regression analysis demonstrated that 0.517% of the variance in cancer coping was elucidated by perceived social support, symptoms management self-efficacy, optimism and uncertainty.
The results of the study clarified the perceived social support, symptom-management self-efficacy, uncertainty and optimism is significant with the cancer coping among Iranian breast cancer survivors. Cancer coping should concentrate on these variables in designing plans to promoting their lives.
