Abstract:
Introduction
events are always associated with human life and occur with different appearances in any moment. Such different events have different effects on one’s mind and body and are in direct relationship with one’s personality traits, resilience and mental health.
Method
the research method wascausative -comparative. The research populationincluded volunteer and non-volunteer students who weremembersofthe Red Crescent Society of Kerman. The sample included 98 subjects divided into two equal groups of volunteer and non-volunteer members selectedthrough cluster sampling method. The test of research hypotheses wasdoneby Neo personality inventory (NEO-PI) (1990), Goldberg general health questionnaire (GHQ) (1979) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) (2003). Data were described and analyzed by inferential descriptive statistics (Freedman test).
Findings: the results showed that there wasa statistically significant difference between the volunteer and non-volunteer students who weremembers of the Red Crescent Society according to their personality traits, resilience and mental health. That is, volunteer members gainedhigherscores in comparison withnon -volunteer members in personality traits (Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness and openness to experience), resilience and general health. The most significant difference between the two groups was observed in resilience and the least significant difference was in general health.
Conclusion
volunteers are considered as powerful resources and potentials for governments and humanitarian organizations. Therefore, correct, principled and fundamental planning in applying such potential power can be effective in different societies in order to achieve sustainable development.
