Shahid Beheshti and the Nation's Rights in Iran's Constitution

Among the Political and Religious figures Ayatollah Dr. Beheshti played the most significant role in drafting the Constitution of the Islamic Republic, since he played a pivotal role in both different phases of drafting the Constitution especially in the Council of Islamic Revolution and in setting up the Assembly of Experts, management of the commissions, informal and formal meetings of this assembly. Drafting various articles related to protecting the nation's rights and devoting one chapter of the Constitution to it are among Martyr Behesti's initiatives. In this paper, with pointing to Shahid Beheshti's intellectual foundations, his views on "the right to destiny", the right to supervise power" and "the right to self-development" and his role in the consolidation and approval of these constitutional rights will be studied.
