The relationship health literacy and quality of life in adults on Karaj

Health literacy as one of the most important issues for the attention of policy makers has been promoting public health. The quality of life and trying to promote it, play a role in individual and social health. Due to adult roles as productive community, this study aimed to determine the relationship health literacy and quality of life in adults.
This study correlational cross-sectional was conducted among 256 adults 18 to 65 years old the city of Karaj in 2016. Sampling was done as a available sampling. The data were collected using a questionnaire containing items on a measure of health literacy (the health literacy inventory for adults-HELIA) and quality of life questionnaire of 12 questions (SF-12). Then the data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient by SPSS software version 21.
In this study, 24.2% (n = 62) from adults, had inadequate health literacy and 23.4% (n = 60) had relatively adequate health literacy. The mean (±SD) score of quality of life in physical health domains 16.24(±2.68), mental health 20.43(±3.89) and overall life quality was 36.68 (±5.82) of 48. There was a direct and significant correlation between health literacy and physical and mental dimensions of quality of life and overall quality of life (P Regarding the relationship between health literacy and dimensions of quality of life, it seems necessary pay more attention to improving people's health literacy (especially adults with inadequate health literacy) in programs to improve quality of life.
