Explanation of the Effectiveness of Economic Sanctions against Iran from the perspective of Political Economy

Abstract:
The present paper examines the effectiveness of economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran from the perspective of political economy by using the method of data envelopment analysis during the periods of 1990 to 2014. For this purpose, the variables of export of crude oil and real exchange rate Indicators of financial sanctions) and imports (trade boost index) as indicators, and the economic growth variable has been used as an output indicator. The results of the research show that: a) the least effect of economic sanctions against Iran in 1990 and 2002 and the greatest impact of sanctions in the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 against the Iranian economy has been made. B) The only indicator of susceptibility in economic sanctions imposed on Iran is economic growth. (C) In the years 1990 to 1996, 2002, 2003, 2011, 2012 and 2014, the economic sanctions against the country with higher performance and from 1995 to 2002, and then especially 2006 and 2010, the efficiency with a decreasing trend.
