Referral status and demographic characteristics of elderly patients in emergency departments in Sabzevar, 1395

With the rapid growth of the elderly population, emergency centers are one of the most important and most frequent providers of services in the field of emergency care for the elderly. In this study, we aimed to determine the demographic characteristics and referral status of elderly patients admitted to emergency care units.

This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 190 elderly patients over 60 years of age admitted to the emergency wards of Vasei Hospital, Amjadad and Heshmati city of Sabzevar in July 1395. They were selected and entered into the study. . Data were collected by a researcher-made questionnaire on the status of referral of the elderly to the emergency department and demographic characteristics. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 21 using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA and independent t-test.

The results showed that the average age of adolescents admitted to emergency care was 72 years, of which 15% had only the only living and cared ones. Ambulances were responsible for about 30% of transmission at midnight and at night. Also, 60% of the elderly have been recruited over the past six months. The most common cause of recurrence was shortness of breath, heart pain, and high blood pressure after it.

According to the results of this study, strengthening of care arrangments and the presence of specialists in cardiovascular, pulmonary and traumatic diseases, as well as the use of emergency medicine specialist in order to prevent elderly admissions procedures in emergency situations, can be considered by authorities Affair.
