The Role of Forgiveness and Meaning in Life in the Prediction of Psychological Well-Being and Satisfaction with Life

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between forgiveness and meaning in life with psychological well-being and satisfaction with life among university students. The research method was descriptive-correlational and regression was used for predicting variables. The statistical population included all the students in Mohaghegh Ardebili University in the academic year 1393-1394. 270 subjects, who were selected as the sample , responded to Diener's satisfaction with life scale, Reif’s psychological well-being scale, Steger et al’s t meaning in life questtionnaaire , and forgiveness scale of Ehteshamzadeh et al. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, multiple regression and variance analysis. Findings showed that forgiveness and meaning of life have a positive and significant relationship with psychological well-being and satisfaction with life .Moreover, realistic understanding of the components of forgiveness and meaning of life can predict psychological well-being and satisfaction with life as the key variables in this research. The results of this research support the role of forgiveness and meaning in life as an effective factor in predicting psychological well-being and satisfaction with life among university students.
