Impact of Family-Based Empowering Model on the Perceived Threat and Self-Efficacy of Families of Diabetic Elderly at Risk of Falling

Diabetes mellitus as a chronic disease is a source of stress for family members, especially if changes due to complications of the disease cause conflicts in family roles and responsibilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of family-centered empowerment program on perceived threats and self-efficacy of diabetic elderly families at risk of falling.
This is a clinical trial study performed on 60 elderly people and active members of the elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus who were referred to a specialty of Endocrinology in Bojnourd in 2016. Samples were selected by available method and After reconciling the demographic characteristics divided into two groups (n = 30) and control (n = 30) with random allocation Even and odd. Family-based empowerment intervention was administered to the experimental group for 8 sessions of 45 minutes. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire, a well-known threat and self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 18 and analyzed by statistical significance at a significant level of p Findings:The mean and standard deviation of the scores of the perceived threat in the test group before the intervention (severity of 5.53 ± 7.26 and sensitivity of 55.17 ± 7.56) and self-efficacy was 56.36 ± 6.92 after intervention (severity of 71.7 64.23 ± 4.8 and 64.66 ± 33.3 sensitivity respectively) and self-efficacy (63.99 ± 4.70) increased (p 0.05).
Based on the results obtained from the findings, implementing a family-centered empowerment program has led to increased knowledge, improved attitudes and self-efficacy in diabetic elderly families, helped them to take care of preventive behaviors, so interventions such as An empowerment model is proposed to improve and improve the quality of care, prevention and independence of the elderly.
