The influence of Jahani salt diapir on adjacent water resources, Firozabad, Fars Province
Jahani salt diapir is located in the south of Fars province, a hot and dry region. The salt rock of the diapir which belongs to the Hormuz Formation (PrecambrianMiddle Cambrian) has significant outcrops in the northern and eastern margins of the diapir. Geologically, the Jahani diapir is an active diapir and dissected to two high and low morphological sections which is the consequence of two-phase salt extrusion. Geomorphological features of the Jahani salt diapir have been studied and the impact of the Jahani diapir on the adjacent water resources, including Firouzabad River and surrounding aquifers, has been investigated. The results indicate that the diapir substantially degrades water quality of the Firozabad River from 700 µS/cm to 13000 µS/cm. In addition, the diapir has influence on water quality of the Azadegan alluvial aquifer and the western karstic aquifer.
