The Study of Two Poles of Metaphorical Language and Metonymy in Some Poems of Ahmad Shamloo With the Approach to the Theory of Roman Jakobson's Sign System

Abstract:
A linguistic look to some of the artistic archetypes of metaphor and metonymy are one of the consequences of linguistic attitudes toward literature, has been considered as a sign system of language in the linguistic function of literature. In this essay, we will analyze the poetic language of contemporary poet, Ahmad Shamloo in a linguistic approach. Shamloo was a follower of Nima before the invention of the style of "blank verse" and he was very successful in composing Nima’s lyrics, but perhaps the differences between Shamloo’s poems and blank verse of Nima could be more accurately illustrated by examining the system of his poetic language. Therefore, in the present study, with the approach to Roman Jakobson's theory, we will examine the relation between similarity (metaphor) and the proximity relation (metonymy) in three phonetic, linguistic and syntactic levels of Shamloo's poetry, and we seek to answer this question, has poetry changed from Nima’s poetry to blank verse, the dominant aspect of his poem has also been changed or not? By examining some of Shamlo's poetry, we find that the dominant aspect of his poetry is "metaphor", since these poems have a lexical and syntactic level in terms of rhythm and similarity (similarity at the phonetic level) as well as the similarity (metaphor). On the other hand, the dominant feature of his blank verse is "metonymy" because the poet, by moving away from the phonetic similarity, draws on the principle of proximity in the language axis and the proximity of the proverbs to their extensions to expand the language system of their poetry, and hence it is nearer to non- literary language.
