Causes of Passage of Pedestrians under Pedestrian Bridges and Strategies for Preventing Accidents below Them (Case Study: Isfahan)

Pedestrian bridges provide a safe below-grade across to transporting of passengers from width of street, which decreases traffic accidents. It is observed in many cases where normal pedestrian bridges and mechanized footbridge are installed, peoples pass the width of the streets as flush from below of the bridge and in some cases, and they are the cause of accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to review about the cause of this condition. The purpose of this study is to studding about the effect of pedestrian bridges and the role of their mechanization in reducing of traffic accidents and increasing the safety of pedestrians in Isfahan. This research is conducted by questionnaire and statistical analysis, which is the result of a study on 384 interviews who have crossed the width of street by pedestrian bridges or under of them in Isfahan city in 2016. In addition, to achieve the best results, in this study the pedestrian accidents statistics, which are under study, is used from 2012 to the first half of 2016. According to the results, the most pedestrian accidents occur during the hours of darkness and women more than men use footbridges. Emphasis on education is an important part of improving pedestrian traffic behavior. In addition, Social Security and visual and physical effects of the bridges are important for pedestrians. According to the accident data and field results, usual  pedestrian bridges has not been good efficacy and use of the escalator with elevator on bridges can increase  significantly the effectiveness of their.
