Assessing the Hydroponics Performance of Iran And Iraq ‎in Order to Optimize The Use of Common Border Waters

Water consumption has increased dramatically in recent years due to population growth, urban development and agricultural development. A total of 12 percent of Iraq's surface water is from Iran, which accounts for 10 percent of the total surface water volume in the country. The main purpose of this paper, prepared as a documentary research in a descriptive-analytical manner, is to examine Iran’s hydropolitics challenges and opportunities towards Iraq. Iraq and Iran are roughly equal in terms of geopolitical balance and therefore have a kind of open and hidden competition in different fields. If Iraq has a high power, it is a threat to Iran, because it is always under the command of Iraq that the water border and Iraq's access to free waters face a very limited constraint. Therefore, if Iraq has a higher power, it will certainly resolve its geopolitical problem and will control its geopolitical crisis by taking advantage of its geographical and economic value Arvand River. Based on the findings of this paper, it can be concluded that Iran should have a tension free hydro-diplomacy towards Iraq, and future hydro-political perspective of Iran and Iraq should be based on the common management of the two countries in Arvand River.
