Abstract:
Richard Rorty, contemporary pragmatist philosopher, has a critical contribution to the contemporary human rights theory. He believes any rational-moral justification of human rights not only useless and vain but also denies rationality in human rights because he thinks that philosophy can no more help to human rights today. Instead dealing with human rights, He suggested sympathy and sentiments not as a basis for human rights, but as motivation in order to impulse people to regards it. For this purpose, he considers human rights telling stories and sentimental education as useful tools. By sentimental education, we can teach to anybody to cares about other humans suffering and pains. By human rights telling stories, he thinks, that means relate the tragic events and violations of human rights in different parts of the world help to strengthen sympathy among the people. In this article, we‘ll examine and analyze this approach to human rights.
