Effectiveness of the Acceptance and Commitment Group Therapy on the Symptoms of Homesickness, Anxiety and Emotional Regulation in College Students

To investigate the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment group therapy on homesickness, anxiety and cognitive emotional regulation among college students referring to Mashhad University clinic. The design of this study was semi-experimental with a pretest–posttest control group design. 30 people were selected by the purposive method and assigned into two groups (experimental group and control group – 15 people in each group). Homesickness questionnaire, anxiety questionnaire, cognitive emotional regulation were used to measure the dependent variables. Findings: In post-test and follow up, symptoms of agitation and anxiety in the experimental group were significantly lower than the control group, and the emotional adjustment of the students improved. Findings of the research confirm that it is important that group therapy based on acceptance and commitment reduces students' agitation and anxiety and increases their emotional regulation.
