Study Features of the Islamic Architecture of Azerbaijan during the Safavid period

Art and architecture had been great progress in the Safavid period. The land of Azerbaijan during the period of the Ilkhanate had an advanced architecture and then along with appear the Safavid dynasty, many buildings with different functions built-in Azerbaijan. The archaeological identification and review of these buildings carried out to make a more complete and deeper understanding of the architecture of this period. Although the Islamic architecture of Azerbaijan during the Safavid period does not compatible with the Isfahan architecture due to the ongoing wars against Ottoman government, but it is important in turn. This architecture has also been highly affected by its native climate and architecture, and has led to construction beautiful and lasting buildings such as Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili shrine, wooden mosques, caravansaries, and so on. The aim of this research is to study and analyze the Islamic architectural identity of Azerbaijan, identifying of decorative trends, innovations, and so on. The research method is library studies, review of archaeological reports and records and field research. The buildings will be surveying have selected as the most important of these buildings. Shrine of Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili, one of the most important of these buildings in Azerbaijan, has joined with Isfahani and Azeri style. It is also a cross-section of a building that shows signs of the Safavid religious and Shiite identity in all parts of it. Wooden mosques in structure and decorations have a special place among the buildings of Azerbaijan in the Safavid period, which has built-in a shabestan form and decorated with extraordinary wooden elements and Caravansaries are also one of the most important buildings in the Safavid period that reflecting the rise of trade in this period in Azerbaijan, and the climate has had a direct impact on the build of these buildings.
