Antimicrobial Activity of Caramel Ethanol Extract (Momordica Charantia) Against Acintobacter Baumanni Isolated from Clinical Specimens

The Carla Medicinal Product Charantia Momordica is a tropical and subtropical cucurbitaceae straw that is widely cultivated in Asian, African and South American regions for the use of its fruit. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Momordica Charantia ethanol extract on Acintobacter baumanni bacteria isolated from clinical specimens in Zabol city. A cross-sectional study was performed. The Carla herb was collected from a pit in Zabol and was dried in shadow. Plant extract from leaf of Charantia Momordica was performed using rotary. Sampling was carry out from urine culture of hospitalized patients (Zabol, South-Eastern of Iran) suffered from urinary tract infections. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) on bacteria was determined using micro dilution broth method at 6 different concentration. The result of study showed that least MIC value for extract plant against Acintobacter was 3.1 ppm, two strains are inhibited in this concentration while that highest MIC value for extract plant against Acintobacter was 12.5 ppm, seven strains are inhibited in this concentration. The results of this study were indicator of the good antimicrobial effects of Carla (Charantia Momordica) extract on the Acintobacter Baumanni bacterial pathogenic bacterium that can be suggested for the treatment of infections caused by Acintobacter baumanni.
