Investigating the role of urban signs with the emphasis on identifying space (Case study: Shahid Chamran Boulevard, Shiraz)

Today, attention to the concept of signs in the city has become one of the concerns of urban theorists. Each city needs to have a city sign in order to create a clear image and readability in the minds of its inhabitants or visitors. Cities are not the only point of inertia on maps, but what makes a city dynamic and attractive and makes citizens happy, is the history, rich culture, beauty and visual quality of urban space, a special feature of which is in Germany and City signs are clearly visible.
The purpose of the present study was to determine the importance of urban signs on identifying space and readability in a city and providing the necessary strategies for strengthening and precise location of urban signs in Chamran Boulevard. The research method was descriptive-analytical and field research and analyzed by SPSS software and analyzed by Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficient tests. The results of the research show that urban signs are one of the most important elements in helping the reader of the city and are important elements of identity in society. The most influential factor is the correlation coefficient of citizens with the urban space related to the functional aspects and the least impact is exposure and reading. Therefore, using the symbol and signs can help to enhance the readability and identity of Chamran Blvd. Shiraz.
