Assessment and evaluation of barriers and challenges of Central Asia convergence

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Central Asian region became a new field for rival countries with various motives. The special position of Central Asia, the existence of huge energy reserves and the opportunity to be present in the former Soviet backyard provided the regional and subregional powers with special attention to Central Asia. The countries of this region, as the historical-civilization sequences of Iran, have many common ties in the fields of religion, linguistic, cultural, historical and geographical, which together with the strategic position of Iran and the countries of Central Asia in the global equations, have exceptional circumstances in terms of Provides the potential for cooperation on both sides. Despite these conditions, the level of mutual relations and cooperation is not in a good position. A problem that disrupts both Iran and Central Asia from its role and desirability. In the present study, while investigating the interests and preconditions of the presence of regional and trans-regional powers in Central Asia, we will try to address the barriers and challenges of convergence between Iran and Central Asian countries. The results of this research, which have been done by descriptive-analytic method, show that, despite the existence of suitable fields of convergence, there are challenges in the way that most of them can be in the presence of transregional powers The contradiction between the interests of the regional and sub-regional powers in Central Asia, the negative propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the lack of a long-term strategy of Iran in this region, and the lack of commonalities in bilateral relations.
