Prevalence of Preeclampsia in Pregnant Women Referred to Maternity Hospitals of Ayatollah Kashani in Jiroft and 12 Farvardin in Kahnuj in Year 1394

Hypertensive disorders occur in 5-10 Percent of pregnancies. Among the types of hypertension disorders, preeclampsia syndrome, either alone or in combination with chronic hypertension, is considered to be the most dangerous one. Considering the lack of information on the prevalence of preeclampsia in the south of Kerman province, this study was primarily performed to estimate the prevalence of preeclampsia in this region and secondly to identify its risk factors. This cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study was performed in 2016 on 2,000 pregnant women referred to maternity hospitals of Ayatollah Kashani in Jiroft and 12 Farvardin in Kahnuj. Age, smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, gravid and parity, multiple birth, BMI, history of stillbirth and abortion, history of hypertension, history of preeclampsia, history of hypertensive disorders in first degree relatives, history of gestational diabetes mellitus, history of kidney disorders, history of thyroid disorders, history of coagulation disorders, and history of hyperlipidemia were investigated as risk factors for developing preeclampsia. Data analysis was done using SPSS and running chi-square test. The prevalence of preeclampsia in the participants was 4.7 Percent. Among the studied variables, age (P= 0.016), history of preeclampsia in previous pregnancy (P= 0.002), and high blood pressure (P= 0.008) had a significant relationship with preeclampsia prevalence. Age, history of preeclampsia in previous pregnancy, and high blood pressure can be considered as risk factors for developing preeclampsia.
