The Large Mammals Mortality in Iran During 2014 to 2017

We collected documented losses of carnivorous species as Leopard and Brown Bear, and artiodactyls as wild Goat, wild Sheep, Red Deer, Roe Deer, Gazelle, Jebir and Fallow Deer by reviewing of the available documents in the Department of Environment, news agencies, specialized news site , Newspapers and Magazines, between 2014-2017. During these years, 94 leopards and 51 brown bears were dead, that the Mazandaran province had the most losses of leopard and brown bear in the country. The main reason of mortality of Leopard (86.17%) and Brown Bear (74.5%), was illegally hunting by humans and a lot of bears (25.4%) were killed in the car crashes. Also, 474 wild goats and 472 wild sheep were illegally hunted during these years. Of course, a lot of goats and fewer sheep due to ppr sickness were dead. Except for Leopard, the most infractions were done in free zones. Overall, during these years, a total of 1091 cases of infraction were recorded in the country, that the most infractions were respectively, in the provinces of Tehran, Khorasan Razavi and Isfahan, and the most of these infractions in 2015 (388 infractions) have been done.
