Evaluation of Serum Level of Vitamin D in the Patient with Thyroid Dysfunction referring to Imam Reza Hospital in 2016

Vitamin D is a hormone prophylactic which has the role of immunological modulatorin auto immune disease such as multiple sclerosis. Furthermore, due to the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in north Khorasan province and important role Vitamin D deficiency as risk factor in many disease including type 1 diabetes and MS disease, This study was done to evaluate serum level Vitamin D in the patients with thyroid dysfunction referring to Bojnurd Imam Reza hospital(north east of Iran) in 2016. In a descriptive cross-sectional study, from 308 person with thyroid dysfunction referring to Imam Reza hospital in Bojnurd city, 221 of them were studied. The serum level of Vitamin D and TSH and T4 and T3 were evaluated the results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and P< 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The average Vitamin D of patient in this study was 20.49 ± 12.05. Out of 221 patients studied, 14.7% were males and 85.3% were females. Frequency of Thyroid dysfunction was higher in females. The prevalence of Hypovitaminose D in Hyperthyroid was 37%and Hypothyroid was 51.5% and other Thyroid Disease was11.5%. According to results this study, the serum level vitamin D in various thyroid diseases was lower than normal level which defined about 30 Ng/ml. Hence more Diagnostic tests and therapeutic planning are needed to confirm these findings.
