A Comparative Study of Verse 159 of Surah Al-Nisa from the Viewpoint of Commentators of the Two Sects

Message:
Abstract:
The commentators of the two sects have different views about the belief of the people of the Scripture in Jesus Christ in the verse 159 of the Surah al-Nisa. The origin of their different view in this verse is about the reference of the pronoun “ه” (him) before the word “موته” (his death). The view of the commentators can be divided into three categories in this regard: some have only quoted the words and have not selected any view. Another group, by referring the pronoun “ه” (him) in “موته” (his death) to the people of the Scripture saw them believe in Jesus Christ at the end of their lives. The third group, who are mostly Shia, confine the faith of the people of the Scripture to the time of Jesus’ presence and before his death. The present paper, constructed on the descriptive-analytic method, investigates this subject and represents the third group’s view as the view of Mokhtar by evaluating the two sects’ views while disputing over the theory of monopoly of faith of the people of the Scripture in Jesus Christ before the death of the people of the Scripture.
