Spirituality in Islam in comparison with Contemporary Psychology

Spirituality is a concept that religions and scientists including psychologists are used in relation to nonmaterial affairs, religion and religious values. This concept is also attributed to individuals, their actions, and sometimes to virtual places and objects. The purpose of this study is to investigate spirituality in Islam in comparison with contemporary psychology. The method of this research is descriptive-analytical with a comparative approach which is based on the collected materials from the library's sources of psychology and the thoughts of the thinkers of Islam and some verses and narrations. The findings of the research are that the position of spirituality in contemporary psychology is interpreted as the superior dimension of human beings, transcendental purpose and the value, criterion of value of life, relation with God and holy affairs, moral behavior, love to human beings, and is shared by its use among Islamic scholars in this regard. Also, the paper shows that in the Islamic perspective, the origin of spirituality is the nature of man and it plays an essential role in harmonizing the set of innate abilities. It also relates the Life in this world which is limited to the eternal life in the hereafter as the basis of true happiness of man.
